Read up on more info below regarding shower remodeling:

What is a half bath? A sink and toilet constitute a half bath, also known as a powder room. Typically, half baths are located on a home's main level, close to the main living areas. They're intended primarily for visitors' use and to provide backup for the main bath. Common dimensions for half-baths are 4x5 feet. In a pinch, they can be as small as 3x6 and still work effectively. Powder rooms are often the most overlooked part of the house, specifically the shower. Because they are generally small, powder rooms offer an opportunity for fun, offbeat, or lavish decorating. Powder rooms also can pack a lot of convenience in a small space. Adding one can increase your home's value - both as an enjoyable place for your family and as a real estate asset.

Take stock of your existing bathroom and shower:

  • Can two people comfortably use the bathroom at the same time?
  • Do you use the tub for relaxing soaks?
  • Is the bathroom just for kids? Do they like using it? Why and why not? Is it safe?
  • If this is the main family bathroom and shower or a children's bath, is it close to the bedrooms?
  • Does the bathroom relate to adjacent rooms the way you would like it to?
  • Are you forever bumping your elbow on a side wall when you brush your teeth?
  • Is there ample, convenient storage?
  • Is the sink of adequate size? Or, would two sinks be better?
  • Are the lighting and ventilation adequate?
  • Is the bathtub or shower big enough?
  • Are there signs of water damage anywhere?

Corner space often can be used more efficiently by angling some of the fixtures. This shower (above) and vanity in north San Diego allow longer sight lines, giving the bath a more expansive look post remodel. Compartmented baths are functional but potentially dark. Here, glass block not only links the two areas but allows in daylight too. At night, individual ceiling lights for each compartment take over. You also can visually expand a narrow compartment by adding wall-to-wall shelves, as was done here above the toilet.
