Seattle, WA Shower Remodeling Experts - Our Local Business Setup
Shower Remodeling Tips for Seattle Homeowners: If you live in Seattle and are considering minor home repairs or bathroom and shower remodeling on your own, consider the following: It may appear simple and minor, but creating a separate shower enclosure (and, to a lesser extent, a tub and shower combo) often requires the coordination of several trades and may take up to a week to complete depending on their respective schedules. The first component is the shower pan, a wedge-shaped slab of concrete or hard, thick reinforced plastic or fiberglass that slopes down to the drain in the flooring. In some cases with high-end Seattle homes, the tile setter or a carpenter will build a custom shower pan framed in lumber, sheathed in backer board and sealed with a plastic sheeting or rubber mastic. Backer board is a reinforced, moisture-resistant sheathing.
While most shower enclosures in Seattle are built custom on-site, some arrive pre-made for easier and faster assembly. Pre-moulded shower pans allow a variety of shower enclosure designs and locations in the bathroom.
No room in the house has been so transformed in the last five years as the bathroom, especially in Seattle and the Northwest in general where Asian influences in home and shower/bathroom design prevail. Pampering has become a serious business and a reward for all our hard work! We want a room that satisfies our fantasies as well as our needs. We want the size and the sizzle of the spa - everyday amenities for weary eyes and bodies.
The Japanese and European tradition of luxury in the bath has spilled over into America in a big way: deep soaking tubs and hand-held showers; whirlpools and saunas; real furniture and sculptural fixtures; smooth finishes and rich, solid colors in faucets, sinks, hardware and handles. Double sinks for the two-career family. Brass and marble, brushed chrome and stainless steel, unexpected combinations of columns and sconces, warm woods and techy black tile, the comfort and grace of grand old hotel baths - all of it is being retrofitted into new and existing floor plans.
How to Repair Holes in Concrete Surfaces - Renovating a Shower ARea
1. Undercut around the edges of a hole in the kitchen or bathroom at a slight outward angle. Use a hammer and cold chisel for small holes. For larger holes, you can use an angle grinder with a masonry blade, which is an excellent tool for this task. On larger holes, like the one above, chip in toward the holes from the undercut edges with the cold chisel.
2. Brush on a light coat of concrete bonded adhesive. Add acrylic or latex fortifier to the concrete patched compound. For deep holes, pour in and compact a layer of sand to within 1 in of the concrete surface.
3. Use a piece of scrap 2 x 4 as a screed board to strike off the top layer of patching material so it's even with the surrounding surface.
4. Use a wood float or a trowel to smooth and feather the surface of the repair. Try to match the surface texture of the surrounding slab. If the surrounding surface has a broom finish, drag a whisk broom across the wet repair compound in the same direction as the ensuing motions.
General Considerations and Overall BAthroom Renovation Ideas
Do you like the way your bathroom and shower are designed? What do you like and dislike? Too messy? Too sterile? Cold or cramped? Boring? As you list design factors you like or dislike in your shower and bathroom, note the particular elements like color and light, that you think contribute to the atmosphere you want to change. Is there enough space in your bathroom? Are secondary activities such as laundry taking up too much space? Once your survey is complete, summarize your notes and develop a list of priorities from your summary. For example, if you noted that there are too many people using a bathroom in the morning, consider clearing up the morning shower traffic jam. This is compounded by the need for proper bathroom ventilation in areas like Seattle where rain is common. The bottom line: having a list of changes you want made is very important so you don't get impulsive as the project starts.
