A brief article about waterproofing as told by a top contractor in Washington, DC
Local waterproofers in Washington use several methods for measuring pipe lengths. One is called center to center measure and is especially suited to water supply plumbing. In face to face measure, fittings are held in position on the framing or else laid out on the floor in the same relationship that will have to each other in the framing. Then with a tape measure you measure from the face of each fitting socket to a face of the next one. This is a common waterproofing technique.
If there's any questions about the makeup for any fitting, it's easy to measure it right on the fitting socket. But don't forget to add for makeup or you'll cut pipe too short and have to cut new ones to fit. Because working with inches and fractions is difficult, you may prefer to use a metric tape measure and take all measurements in millimeters. When you cut all your pipe for waterproofing, it's a good idea to dry assemble them with their fittings to see that everything comes out on target.
