To relight a pilot, check with the warranty book. During operation, the outer and inner access panels must be in place. Operating the water heater without the access panels may allow air drafts to blow out of the pilot flame. If the pilot will not light, it is probably because the thermocouple is worn out. The thermocouple is a safety device designed to shut off the gas automatically if the pilot flame goes out. Tools needed would include a wrench, vacuum cleaner, needle-nose pliers and thin wires.
